In the process of designing and constructing Villa No. 71, two main issues of the project were the speed of execution and the economy of the process. Considering the project's location in northern Iran, the Rahro team also had three concerns: changing the approach to local architectural forms, experimenting with form-shaping based on the needs of contemporary life, and simultaneously utilizing technology as a disruptive factor in the traditional landscape.
Therefore, the northern facade, which overlooked the adjacent land and practically could not have any openings, was designed as an integrated shear wall. This wall not only fulfilled a structural role, creating a larger space without the need for columns, but also accelerated the construction process and, according to estimates, resulted in cost savings during execution.
Highlighting the vertical and horizontal circulation of the project with different materials and colors not only created a cohesive understanding of the villa's functionality for the user but also served as a reminder of the connection between this villa and its older sibling, Villa No. 44, which had been designed for the same client the previous year.
The elongated shape of the project site, the need for natural light from the east and west, and the lack of suitable views at the height of two floors were factors that guided the design toward creating tranquil corners inside the villa, utilizing views of the courtyard, and incorporating skylights to illuminate the central spaces. Additionally, easy access was provided to a portion of the roof that offered a 360-degree view of the distant natural surroundings, allowing the residents to enjoy the scenery.
The use of linear lights and joints in both the interior and exterior spaces, aligned with the walls perpendicular to the building's length and fragmenting the internal spaces, were among the details that created a connection between the elongated exterior form and the interior spaces. Additionally, the placement of a pool with a narrow width and extended length further enhanced this sense of continuity for the observer in the outdoor space.
The reason for choosing the villa's name is the form of the column and the elevator shaft, which together evoke the number 71 in Persian. This shape is visible from the beginning of the cul-de-sac and along the access path to the villa.
